Proposal | STEELHEADS : A Proposal Statement The artist plans to exhibit nine abstracted portrait busts and seven minimal, abstracted fish sculptures. All works are in welded steel and are "table top" in scale. The busts were completed between 1995 and 2005. They are allegorical and classical in theme and conceived as contemplative works. The fish sculptures in this proposal were all sculpted in the last year, 2005. They are stylized versions of fresh water species indigenous to the Canadian shield. The theme of the "Steelhead Trout" was appropriated and expanded to include the entire collection of portrait busts and fish sculptures. The contrast of the classic hero subject of the portrait bust, and the humble edible fish, is noted by their partnership in this display. The "noble" teamed with the "menial". Each of the pieces presented at this time has been rendered in welded steel. They are all intended to be presented individually on plinths higher than thirty inches. |
